Have your say on possible changes to child protection laws

Overview

This survey is now closed.

Thank you to everyone who had their say. 210 surveys were submitted via the Queensland Youth eHub.

The Queensland Government is considering the results of consultation and how these may support a stronger legislative framework for the child protection and family support system.

A consultation report summarising the feedback received is now available.

The consultation covered three key areas:

  • reinforcing children and young people’s rights in the law
  • strengthening children and young people’s voices when decisions are made about them
  • reshaping the rules and requirements for someone to be a foster or kinship carer or to provide other services to children and young people who cannot live at home.

The consultation closed on 27 September 2019.

The Queensland Government is half-way through a 10 year reform program to strengthen the child protection and family support system. The steps being taken are starting to show positive results and we want to build on these to meet the needs of Queensland families, children and young people. A strong, modern and effective legislative framework is an important part of the reform program.
